What is HSBC's SmartPay?

Only with an HSBC credit card you can enjoy the benefits of HSBC's SmartPay which allows you to pay credit card purchases made at ANY local or overseas merchant at zero percent (0%) interest over your preferred repayment period.

 

Who can apply for HSBC's SmartPay?

All HSBC credit cardholders are eligible to join HSBC'sSmartPay except for corporate cardholders.

 

What do you mean by zero percent (0%) interest?

Zero percent refers to an instalment transaction where there is no additional interest or finance charges that will be applied to the actual cost of the item you purchased using your HSBC credit card's instalment facility over the selected tenor. As such, you only need to pay on a monthly basis the purchase amount divided by the number of months to pay. Monthly Instalment Amount at 0% interest = Purchase Amount/No. of Months to Pay.

 

What tenors are available?

We offer you tenors of 6, 12, 18 and 24 to suit your budget best.

 

How do I qualify for an instalment?

To qualify, cardholders must satisfy the single transaction minimum purchase amount of BND500 if you choose either 6, 12 or 18 months tenor and BND3,000 for 24 months tenor.

 

Will I need to pay any service fee?

Yes, you need to pay a one-off service fee of 3% of each card purchase transaction amount or BND30 (via Participating Merchant) / BND50 (via HSBC Call Centre), whichever is higher.

 

Where can I use HSBC's SmartPay?

Anywhere! The option to do instalment is available at any local or overseas merchant providing you meet the minimum requirements.

 

How can I use HSBC's SmartPay?

If you are shopping at any local or overseas merchant, simply call 2 252 252 to convert your purchase to HSBC's SmartPay.

If you are shopping at selected merchants in Brunei, simply inform the merchant that you are paying the purchase amount under HSBC's SmartPay and the tenor preferred.

 

Will I need to apply for separate credit limit?

You do not need to have a separate credit limit for instalment thus the whole instalment amount will be deducted to your available credit limit. Your available credit limit will be replenished as you pay your total outstanding balances each month equivalent to the amount you paid.

 

Will the instalment transactions be reflected in my statement of account?

Yes, it will be reflected in your Statement of Account as a regular purchase transaction with the monthly instalment amount and schedule of payment (e.g., 1st of 12 instalments) shown.

 

Will I incur penalty charge if I cannot pay the monthly instalment amount for the month?

No. Your instalment transaction will be considered by our system as a regular purchase. This will enable you to pay as low as 5% of the total outstanding balance (regular purchases + monthly instalment amount). That will result in your not becoming past due/delinquent and as such will not incur any late payment fees. You will however be charged the applicable finance charges for choosing to revolve on your card.

 

Can my supplementary card get items for instalment?

Yes, but all instalment purchases made by your supplementary card shall be posted and/or charged to your credit card account.

 

Do I earn Reward Points for my instalment transactions?

Yes. Each month, your credit card account shall be credited the corresponding Reward Points equivalent to the monthly instalment amount that is posted to your Statement of Account.

 

If I decide to cancel my HSBC's SmartPay before the agreed period, will I incur a penalty charge?

Yes, you will need to pay an early settlement fee of BND150 in addition to your full and final settlement of the instalment purchase price.
