| HSBC BRUNEI INTRODUCES "FUTURE FIRST" , ITS GLOBAL FLAGSHIP EDUCATION PROGRAMME FOR DISADVANTAGED CHILDREN. Monday, 19th December 2011 Today, HSBC Brunei launched Future First, its global flagship education programme that aims to make education more accessible for disadvantaged and special needs children. Invited to the launch were representatives from four local non-governmental organisations (NGOs); Pusat Ehsan Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Maryam, Pusat KACA, SMARTER and Learning Ladders, all of whom have been recognised for their valuable work in providing education for special needs children. Katak Ijau were also invited in view of their humanitarian work with children in poverty. ![]() Lim Boon Teck, Manager Corporate Sustainability HSBC presented the donation to Pusat Ehsan's representative, Haji Abd Hamid bin Maaruf. ![]() Malai Haji Abdullah bin Haji Malai Othman from SMARTER receiving the toy donation from Lim Boon Teck, Manager Corporate Sustainability HSBC. Future First is a five-year programme managed by the HSBC Global Education Trust and currently supports more than 349 projects in 49 countries, benefiting nearly half a million children worldwide. In 2011, HSBC renewed its commitment to Future First with fresh investment of USD15million. In the next 5 years, NGOs in 86 countries where HSBC has a presence will be able to apply for funding of up to USD50,000 per annum from "Future First". Lim Boon Teck, Manager Corporate Sustainability said, "We are excited to launch this programme in Brunei. Children are our future. Through Future First, we can help deliver education projects that provide our children with a more sustainable and prosperous future. We are delighted with the opportunity to partner with local organisations that supports our community ." HSBC 'S BOX OF HOPE BROUGHT SMILES TO THE LESS FORTUNATE Tuesday, 30th August 2011 HSBC has a long standing commitment towards contributing back to the community. Community investment is not only an integral part of the HSBC's core values, HSBC also believes that being a good corporate citizen is extremely vital to its success. In the spirit of the holy month of Ramadhan, HSBC has intensified its philanthropic efforts and activities to help those who are less fortunate. In the first week of Ramadhan, HSBC Brunei launched 'HSBC's Box of Hope' charity initiative. Generous members of the public have been dropping off boxes of toys, books, clothes and groceries at HSBC branches, all of which went to those in need. ![]() Some of the interesting designs on the Box of Hope. Over the four weekends, HSBC staff traversed across all four districts in the nation, bringing cheer and delivering 'HSBC's Box of Hope' to over 100 families and 250 children. During the fasting month, over 100 HSBC staff members together with Katakijau's assistance, volunteered over 300 hours of their personal time to make the HSBC's Box of Hope initiative a success. ![]() HSBC volunteers on the way to Kampung Pudak. Kimberly Lim of HSBC Brunei, said "It was a very touching moment when the single mother of seven shared her story and we couldnt help but cry with her. We are thankful that HSBC has provided us with this opportunity to contribute." Victor Chan of HSBC Brunei, added, "the state of their current homes and financial situation is heartbreaking but it touched my heart to see smiles on their faces as they realised that there are still people out there who care." Lim Boon Teck, Manager Corporate Sustainability, HSBC Brunei said, "The public's response to the HSBC's Box of Hope charity drive was nothing short of overwhelming. We are touched by our fellow Bruneians' generosity and kindness. I am also extremely proud of my colleagues who made time during the weekend to deliver these boxes to families across all four districts, even to remote locations such as Benutan and Kampung Pudak. "Due to the sheer amount of donation that we received, we are also able to donate the toys to local non-profit charities for special needs children. We have donated toys to RIPAS Pediatric Oncology ward, Child Development Center, SMARTER, KACA and Pusat Ehsan. We are also looking forward to deliver the remaining groceries to the families in need during the Hari Raya period." HSBC's Badan Kebajikan Islam also arranged a tahlil and iftar ceremony for 50 orphans in the capital. This ceremony, which was held at Dewan Sejahtera, Sumbangsih Bahagia, Beribi Gadong was attended by Datin Paduka Hajah Adina binti Othman, senior management and staff members of HSBC. Each child also received a gift hamper before going home. |

1 DAY TO FINAL PREPARATION FOR HSBC Walk Run Cycle Charity Event Tuesday, 24th May 2011 On May 22nd, HSBC will mark its 'WalkRunCycle' Charity event at Taman Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien with over 2,000 participants helping to raise funds for Pusat Ehsan Al-Hajjah Maryam, Persatuan Kanak-Kanak Cacat (KACA) and SMARTER Brunei. Participants will either cycle on the 45 km route or choose to walk, run or cycle on the 8km route. With family members taking part across different categories, WalkRunCycle is clearly a special event for the whole family. ![]() WalkRunCycle - 45km Route ![]() Continue - Inset for the 45km Route '8km route' category, will stand a chance to win the latest ipad 2 and other fabulous prizes. Participants who are in their costumes are encouraged to register themselves at the registration booth prior to the event. Although the event will start at 7.00 am, all participants are advised to arrive at Taman SOAS by 6 a.m. to avoid the anticipated traffic congestion. For safety reasons, HSBC would like to remind all cyclists that wearing safety helmets is compulsory irregardless if the participant is cycling on the 8km or 45 km route. Cyclists are also advised to ensure their bicycle is in safe working condition. Participants are also reminded to take precautionary measure against dehydration and use proper solar protection such as hats and sunscreen. On hand to greet the students was Alan Liew, Assistant Manager Human Resources, HSBC Brunei. This was followed by a short briefing about HSBC Brunei and the highlights of the day-to-day banking operations. ![]() Alan Liew, Assistant Manager Human Resources, HSBC Brunei gave a brief presentation about HSBC. After the presentation, all students were taken on a brief tour to various departments such as Marketing and Group Communications, Global Markets, Premier Centre and the BSB Branch. Cross-stitch is a popular form of counted-thread embroidery in which X-shaped stitches are used to form a picture and it makes one's past-time worthwhile. TOP 8 SHORTLISTED IN HSBC YOUNG ENTREPRENEUR AWARDS Monday, 28th February 2011 HSBC announced that eight teams made it to the third round of the HSBC Young Entrepreneur Awards (YEA). The teams, which submitted the one-minute visual presentation to demonstrate how innovative and commercially viable their proposed product or service is, will now turn these ideas into an actual business plan. 20 teams submitted their one-minute visual presentation for an online public vote to choose the Best Visual Presentation Award as well as an assessment by a panel of judges to choose the top eight teams. The visual presentations submitted by the teams are still available for viewing inclusive of submission from six other countries at the HSBC YEA website, www.asiayea.com. Over 2000 members of the public voted online for their favourite presentation, and the winning team will receive BND500, a team trophy for the Best Visual Presentation Award and certificates. The result will be announced in the HSBC Young Entrepreneur (YEA) Brunei Final in May 2011. The one-minute visual presentations were judged based on creativity, originality and commercial viability. The judges were chosen from different areas of the bank, such as Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) and Marketing. The eight short-listed teams attended a business plan writing workshop, where they were guided on how to write a business plan by Ricky Lim, Business Relationship Manager, Lim Pea Chia, Manager of Marketing, Alex Lee, Business Relationship Manager from HSBC Brunei. After attending the workshop, the teams will then submit a 10-page business plan and present their proposals for another round of judging. ![]() The students listen attentively during the presentation. ![]() All speakers and the Top 8 teams were all smiles after completing the workshop. The top three teams in this competition will win themselves attractive prizes with the winning team taking home a self-development fund of $3,000, trophies, certificates and an opportunity to compete in the regional competition in Hong Kong this coming June 2011, where they will stand the chance of winning a business development fund of HK$100,000 ($20,000). HSBC Young Entrepreneurs Award (YEA) was launched in Brunei in January 2008 to give incentives to young entrepreneurs from the local tertiary level institutions to promote their entrepreneurial skills. This year, the HSBC YEA competition also runs in six other countries; Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, Bangladesh and China-Shanghai. |
