Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is
part of HSBC's brand and as the world's local bank, HSBC always do their best to
become part of the fabric of local communities in countries where they operate.
Last year, HSBC worldwide invested more than US$69 million in charitable
programmes and its employees spent more than 230,000 working hours voluntarily
helping their communities.
HSBC Cares, the
Bank's new CSR programme, was launched on 7 August 2005. The programme forms an
umbrella for all HSBC staff voluntary activities for Brunei, and encourages HSBC
employees of all ages and seniority to participate by contributing their time
and talents to help the community they live in. CSR initiatives in Brunei are
focused towards supporting sustainable projects in education, sharing of best
practices in addressing environmental issues, providing support to
underprivileged and physically-challenged children to acquire necessary living
skills, and help to equip and improve local young entrepreneurs business
competitiveness. These activities fall under three headings: Education, Community
and the Environment.
HSBC believes strongly in the value of learning and this is demonstrated clearly by promoting education amongst the local community as part of the HSBC Cares program.
HSBC is committed to help develop and become an integral part of the Bruneian community through various good causes and community events.
HSBC has always been at the forefront when it comes to championing global concerns; specifically targeting the negative impact our day-to-day activities have on the environment.
